I photographed these kids in Sudan’s Nuba Mountains in the cave where they shelter from bombings. They’re half-starved and 16 of them live in the cave. They were just haunting.

Al-Bashir. GOS. Leave the Nuba Mountains, leave Abyei. Just get out of South Kordofan, period. Get out of the Blue Nile State too. You are not impressing anyone with your bombs and mass graves and burning/raiding of villages. And you will continue to not impress anyone (China doesn’t count)—even if you do somehow assert your awe-inspiring remarkable strength and slice Abyei/South Kordofan in half and subvert the people to your authority, or if you somehow gain direct control of oil reserves in the South. Maybe, instead of violating univ. human rights and international law all the time, you could calm down a bit and put some sincere effort into finding a feasible and just way to split oil revenue. Or, better idea: you could take a vacation to …say… the Hague?
